Layouts for SF botanical park weekend!

There have been a heatwave in Bay Area since last Friday. It reached 90F yesterday, but it's going to be even hotter today!! I survived yesterday's heat, but don't know about today's. I might have to go out to the library or something in the afternoon.

Anyway, after I finished cleaning and workout in the morning when it was still cool, I made these two layouts with photos from the weekend when we went to SF botanical park.




For the background, I used Cosmo Cricket's Coredination paper. I rarely use black for the background, but I like how it turned out!
Alphabet stickers are from Jenni Bowlin. It was sitting in my shelf for more than a year!! Other patterned papers are from Cosmo Cricket Material Girl line.



The green paper is Cosmo Cricket Core'dination cardstock. I sanded it to highlight the embossed pattern and then punched holes. I like this green, but not 100% sure if it was a good match with American Craft pattern paper...(a bit too much??)

Another hot day, today, but hoping to be crafty again:-)


　冷夏なんですけどね。基本的には。でも先週金曜日から熱波が来てまして。結構暑くなってます。。まぁ真夏の頃に比べると、直射日光が入る時間が短くなったので、午前中などはまだ過ごしやすのですが。ただ午後2時ごろになって天窓から直射日光が私のデスク当たりを直撃する時間がありまして。昨日のその時間帯は、さすがに作業が出来ませんでした・・・

　でも二つ、レイアウトを作りました♪先日、SFの植物園に行った時の写真です。
　一つ目の「SF botanical park」の方は、バックグラウンドにコアディネーション（コスモクリケットのパターンがエンボスされている）を、サンディングしてから使いました。黒って滅多に使わないのですが、花の色が映えて良い感じ！ジェニー・ボウリンのステッカーもやっと使えた・・1年以上は買っただけになってました。残りのパターンペーパーは、コスモのマテリアルガールです。

　もう一枚は、植物園に行く前に食べに行ったカフェでの写真。ここでもコスモ×コアディネーションのペーパーを使いました。色が好き～♪なんですが、ちょっとパターンペーパーの模様とのバランスが取れてないように感じ、微妙。。。でもアメリカンクラフトのDear Lizzyペーパー、可愛いですよね！今まで何回か子どもの写真に使ったのですが、やっと自分にも使えて嬉しい（笑

　今日はもっと暑くなって予報37度！！うーーん。。こうも暑くなったり寒くなったりだと、体調管理が難しいです。今週は、暇な日と忙しい日の落差も激しいのです（水・金土日とほぼ終日外出）。風邪ひかないようにしなくっちゃー！　

"capture the moment" minibook for our friends!

Our family friends, Brett and Angie, just had their first baby last Saturday!! We are sooooo happy for them! They are incurably hard working and generous people... They always impress us. We are more than sure that they will be great parents, which actually they are for their three foster care children. Congratulations!!!

We are planning to go to see their baby this weekend, so I made this 4x4 minibook for them. The baby is adorable and the whole family look very happy... The baby is named Nehemiah. We are looking forward to seeing him!






　先週土曜日、夫が長年親しくしている夫婦に男の子が産まれました♪私も渡米前から話を聞いていたし、こちらに来てからはちょこちょこ一緒にご飯を食べたりしていました。話し好きで楽しくて、でもと～～～～～っても真面目で、敬虔なクリスチャンで、フォスターキッズ3人を一生懸命育ててうて。二人とも仕事も出来るし頭もいいけど、生活費を稼ぐ以外の時間は、全てコミュニティと子どもたちのために使って。貧しいエリアに住んで、狭いおうちでも、「みんなそうだから」と。。。も～～～たった二人で（日本で言う）1LDKに住んでぶーたれてる自分たちが恥ずかしくなるくらいの尊敬できる夫婦なのです。

　そんな二人の第一子。これから子育て大変だと思うけど、二人ならきっと大丈夫だろうな。週末に会いに行く予定なので、ラブメモ講座のハードカバーケースブックを、Cosmo CricketのペーパーDe Lovelyを使って作り、送ってくれた写真を飾りました♪

　も～～～～生まれたてほっやほや！！可愛いです～～～BrettもAngie（夫婦）も美人なので、ハンサム君になることでしょう～～♪実際にだっこさせてもらうのが楽しみです（＾＾）

SF Botanical Garden

These are photos from last weekend when we visited SF botanical garden in Golden Gate Park.

First we stopped at a cafe near from Golden Gate Park. I had french toasts and Paul had tuna sandwich and cram chowder. The place, called Howard's cafe, was busy and friendly place. The food was good volume(not too big, just perfect for us), nice prices, and tasty!


Then we went to the botanical garden.







This is my favorite photo...we are going green:-))
The garden was a bit of disappointment... I guess the city doesn't have enough money to take a good care of it. There were a lot of weeds. But still we had a fun;-)

　もう先週末のことですが、思い立ってSFのゴールデンゲートパーク内にある植物園に行ってきました。何となく自然に触れたくて。
　着いたらもう昼前だったので、まずはパーク近くのカフェを物色して、ブランチ。私はフレンチトースト、夫はターキーサンドとクラムチャウダー♪量もちょうど良く、安かったし、店員さんもフレンドリーで良かった！程よく混んでいるのも、活気があってよかったです～。
　
　植物園自体は、、、まぁ7ドル払って入る価値があるかというと・・・うーん。まぁ寄付と思えばいいのかな。結構雑草も生えていて、ああ、財政難・・・と思われるお手入れ具合でした。花もそんなに咲いてなかったし。2時間くらいで退散～。
　
　でもまぁ楽しかったです。ゴールデンゲートパークは、駐車場を見つけるのが難しいので、行かず嫌いだったのですが、うまく住宅地で探せば不可能ではないことが分かりました！それだけでも良かったかな？パーク内には、他にも博物館、美術館、バラ園、日本庭園などあるので、また行ってみようと思います～

A busy day and layouts

It's Monday again...How are you doing?
My friend stopped by and we had lunch together. Nice start of the week!

Last Thursday was kind of a crazy day for me. I decided to go to Fremont with my husband because they were planning to have a small baby shower for his co-worker and his wife(Brett and Angie) in the afternoon at their work. So I drove with my husband, dropped him off at his work, went to Goodwill and thrift store, had lunch in the car, went to scrapbook store to do my project, and then, went back to Paul's work around 4pm. The party was small, but cozy and very nice. I haven't seen Brett and Angie for a while. Angie looked great and relaxed... So happy to see them happy!!

After the shower, I waited for Paul to finish his work for a half hour or so, and then we drove home around 6:30pm. One of my friends called me earlier in the evening asking if I could come over to help her babysitting her daughter(one and half months old), since she was sick. I couldn't go, because I was in Fremont at that time, so I called her up to see how she was doing. Well, it turned out she was really sick and needed a help. Though it was kind of late(7pm) and I didn't have dinner yet, I stopped by hers for about one hour played with her daughter(Paul dropped me off and got home to eat, then came back to pick me up).

I got home finally almost 9pm... Whew!! I have done quite a bit on that day...
Anyhow, these two layouts are what I worked on in the same day.

"Girls' treasure hunt" mainly using Graphic 45 fashionista line...

The photos are from Niles Antique fair. I didn't take photos of my girlfriends(too busy to chat and shop!), so I cut out beautiful ladies from the paper. The lady in the yellow scarf shows exactly how much I was excited at the fair!



"Museum mania" mainly using Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante line...(Oh my, Graphic 45 papers are so beautiful and unique with gorgeous vintage look!!)
The photos are from the Altered book show at Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in Novato. The top small photos are altered books displayed at the show, but I don't think I'm supposed to show them here, so they are covered up. Sorry for that. In any case, I thought the paper's patterns are good much with the artist's works(interesting, but somewhat wired).

It was a productive day, I guess;-)

　先週木曜日は、なんかもうかなりバタバタした一日でした。。
　
　朝は夫と一緒に会社へ行き、一人で中古品店など回る。ランチを車で食べて、スクラップやさんでクロップ→4時前に夫の会社へ戻り、彼の同僚と奥さんのためのBaby showerに参加（いたってシンプルで、プレゼントあげて、ケーキ食べただけ、でも同僚にも奥さんにも久しぶりに会って話が出来てうれしかった♪）→夫の仕事が終わるまで少し待って、帰宅→帰宅途中、風邪でダウンしている友達に電話してみると、ヘルプ必要だそう→で、夫に私を友人宅へ落としてもらって、友人娘と1時間くらい遊ぶ→夫にピックしてもらって、帰宅@9時まえ。。。晩御飯は、なんかお菓子食べましたね、確かね。おかきだっけか。。。
　
　スクラップ屋さんで、上の二つのレイアウトを作成しました～！Graphic 45という、1年ほど前に出来て、人気急上昇中のメーカーのペーパーを、初めて使いました。ペーパーは本当に綺麗でユニークで、カッコ良いのですが、それだけで完成されてる感じというか・・・どう使っていいか分からなかったんですが。まぁ何とかサマになった・・・？？

　1枚目は、Nilesのアンティークフェアに行った時の写真を使いました。女友達2人と一緒だったのですが、彼女たちと写真は撮らなかったので、ペーパーから切り出したレディたちで代理ということで（笑）

　2枚目は、Novatoの近代博物館でAltered Book展を見に行った時のもの。展示物の写真撮影Okとは言われたのですが、ブログにアップはNGかと思い、展示物は隠しています。見づらくってごめんなさい。Altered Bookのちょっと変な、でもユニークな感じが、ペーパーに合うかな？！と思って使ってみました～

　まぁ生産的な一日ではあったのですが。。やっぱりまぁ疲れましたね～～～（＾＾；；

Carmel

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had a very relaxing time.
The weather here was wonderful. Hot and sunny, beautiful summer weekend! On Monday, we went to Carmel, which is about 2 hour driving from where we live.

Carmel is known for Pebble Beach golf course, art galleries, beautiful beach, nice restaurant and stuff like that. We went there a couple years ago, but didn' t explore much. This time, I wanted walk around in the downtown, go to beach to do nothing!

A little before noon, we got to Carmel... So many cars! Finding a parking spot was a challenge.

First, we went to Katy's Place for lunch! The place was packed and there was a long line...which was actually good for us, because they only accepted cash and my husband had to go back to the car to pick up his wallet!! When our name was called, he just got back!

My husband got a tuna sandwich and I got California egg Benedict. They were carefully chosen for our tight cash budget ;-)

Then we walked around in the downtown area...
We thought this was very interesting. Monk carvings on the fashion store?!




Then, we walked to the beach...

Big fish on the beach?!

It was hot, but very relaxing... we dozed off a bit.
After a while, the fog moved into the beach and it got too cold to stay.
We drove home and ate left over stuff from Saturday. I was mostly free from my daily chores(except laundry in the morning). Very good weekend:-)

　3連休だった月曜日、うちから車で2時間ほどの所にあるカーメルに行きました～お天気も良く、暖かくて行楽日和♪カーメルは、ベブル・ビーチのゴルフコースが有名ですが、アートやビーチ、古い教会などもよく知られています。
　12時前に着いて、まずKaty's Placeというエッグ・ベネディクト専門店へ。ちょうどお昼時だったのもあり、長～い列！でも助かりました。。なぜなら、ここ、「現金オンリー」のお店だったんです～！普段、ほとんどの買い物をカードで決済するので、現金の持ち合わせは、少なく。。慌てて夫が、車から自分の財布を取りに行きました。ちょうど呼ばれた頃に、戻ってきて。夫婦合わせて45ドルでほっと一安心でございます。

　とはいえ、油断は出来ない～じーっとメニューを見つめ、計算ばっちりしてから、オーダーしたのは、カリフォルニアエッグベネディクトとツナサンド。私のベネディクトは、パン（？）の上にターキーとアボガド、半熟卵が3個のって、その上からタルタルソースのような濃厚～～なソースがかかっていました。濃い！！でもおいしかったです。3分の1は、持ち帰りましたが。。さすがに卵3個はコレストロール高すぎだと思うので。。

　食べた後は、ダウンタウンをうろうろ。服、家具、アンティーク、お菓子etc色々なお店がありますが、どこも店構えが何か可愛い♪ひとつ、面白いと思ったのが、若い子向けの服やさんのお店の外壁にキリスト教の修行僧みたいなのが彫られていたこと・・・昔の建物の名残でしょうか、、？不思議な感じでした。

　それから車を移動させ、ビーチへ！白い砂浜がまぶしい～～♪よく晴れて、暑いくらいでしたが、タオルをひいてごーろごろ。気持ちよかった～～　でも徐々に霧が出てきて、最初はほどよく涼しかったのですが、段々寒くなってきて。。汗。もう4時前だったので、帰路へつきました。

　帰宅後は、BBQの残りとご飯で夕飯。朝、洗濯していった以外は、家事もせず！あーのんびりした週末でした♪

Happy labor day!

I hope everyone is enjoying good long weekend!
On Saturday, we went over to my friend's place for a BBQ and potluck. I used some of my Pyrex bowls that I bought recently. I was very happy and excited to be able to use them:-)



I brought salad in a green bowl and marinated fish in a white dish.
It was a lot of fun!

This photo is from last Friday's dinner. I tried to coordinate table with antique plates and dishes. How does it look? Humm.. it's okay...(well, the photo is too dark, definitely I have to work on this.)
I don't quite like round plates of Pyrex, because they seem too small, but to my surprise, my husband liked them, because small plate would help him to eat less!
Well..... because he like it, plates should be added to my target list....Another great reason for my antique shopping! Yay!!

　アメリカは、次の月曜日が休みなので、今週末は3連休！みなさん、いかがお過ごしですか？
　土曜日は、お友達宅にお呼ばれしたので、いくつかおかずを作り、最近買った食器を使って持って行きました～！グリーンの花柄のキャセロールに入っているごぼうサラダと、白地に青のプリントの器に入っている白身魚のカレー南蛮漬け。後、写真に写っていませんが、ピンクのキャセロールに豚の角煮。およばれすると、つい頑張って作ってしまって、結局、いつもよりキッチンに長くいることに・・（汗）。休みたいはずなのに～（笑）あ、でも余ったおかずやお肉、もらって帰ったので、後ふつか、ご飯さえ炊けば、料理しなくてよさそうですけどね（＾＾ｖ
　それにしても、使いたい食器があると、料理の楽しさもアップ。ゲンキンなものです～
　友人夫の焼いてくれたチキンやラザニア、絶品でしたー♪あと別のお友達のすぱむすにパスタetc。あっという間に満腹になりました！楽しかった～

　パイレックスやファイヤーキングの食器でそろえてみました。パイレックスのお皿、ちょっと小さいので、私はあまり好きじゃないのですが。夫は、「昔の人はこのお皿に乗るくらいの量でちょうど良かったんだ。ダイエットに良さそうだよ！」と、意外にも気に入ったようです。え～～そんなこと言われたら、また頑張ってアンティーク巡りしちゃうんだけど～～～（笑）
　
　日曜日はゆっくりして、月曜日はどこかドライブでも？と考え中。皆様、良い週末を～！

Niles Antique Fair

Last weekend, I went to Antique Fair/Flea Market at Niles area in Fremont!
Again, my husband took me there, dropped me off, and went to his workplace to do his own project. He is very sweet, yes, but it would be even sweeter if he could shop around with me, but he said no. He couldn't stand window-shopping or watch me shopping... :-(

Anyway, I walked around and saw some great deals. Two of my girlfriends joined me later. We enjoyed chatting, walking around, making fun of things... great girl's time! Though they had to leave early.

I don't know if I got super good deals, but they were so cute! I especially love the last pink Pyrex casserole! So lovely!

I usually buy Pyrex and Fire King stuff at second-hand stores, so they are pretty cheap, but they often don't come with the lid, are bit dirty and sometimes damaged. I don't care too much about them, because I'm not a collector(well, at least not yet!) , and want to actually use them. The expensive ones scare me to use.

Many of my Japanese friends are crazy about Pyrex, Fireking, and other American vintage stuff. I tried not to be involved, because I don't need them, I didn't quite like it, and they can be expensive.

Now... I think I'm getting a bit crazy about it! Here are things;
-Some of the patterns and colors are actually quite cute.
-They are handy when we have guests and bring food over for a potluck.
-They are quite valued in Japan.
-It's so much fun to go second hand stores and find something I like at a great price.

I know I need to stop myself at some point! It seems challenging right now!



　先週の日曜日。うちから30分ぐらいの所にあるナイルズというアンティーク街のアンティークフェアに行ってきました！夫の会社からは、10分くらいの所だったので、夫は私をドロップして、また会社で仕事と趣味のプログラミングをしてました。駐車場を見つけるのが至難だったので、これは良い方法でした（＾＾

　私は一人ぷらぷら。先日行ったお店に行くと、フェアのことを教えてくれたおばさんが、私を覚えていてくれて、「特別に割引してあげるわよ♪」と！いや～～ん、嬉しい！そういうことを言われると、買わなくていいものまで買ってしまう性分なので（試食するとつい買っちゃうのと同じ。。汗）、パイレックスのキャセロール（緑のお花柄）とファイヤーキングのをひとつ（白のやつ。でも帰ってよく見たら、ちょっと欠けていた。どうりで安かった訳だ）お買い上げ～！到着して30分経つかどうかって時に買っちゃう私。。しかも重い（汗）

　お会計をしていると、友人が到着＆合流。ストリートにも出店がたくさん出ていたので、そちらを喋りながら見て。。パイレックスの丸いの3つセット、かつ、蓋つきを発見！すごい迷う。。でもむこうから来たおばさんも見てる！！ああ！！！どうしよう！！！と焦りながら、でも手はそのセットから離さず、、、チーン、お買い上げです。

　かなり荷物が重くなってしまったら、そのお店の人が、預かっておいてくれると。助かる♪

　その後、さらにもう一人友人が合流～。ぺちゃくちゃ喋りながら、見るの、たっのしい！日本人も多いね～とか言いながら、私たちもそうなんだけどね（＾＾；

　でもやっぱりここの商品は高いね・・・というのが、女3人の結論。
　状態はすごく良いし、可愛いものも多いのですが。私ももう一人の友人も、基本的には中古品店で買うので、もっと安いのです。ただセットで見つかることはまずないし、蓋もないことがほとんどだし、欠けてたり、傷がついたりしてるのも多いんですけどね。何が見つかるか分からないけど、見つかるとテンション上がる訳で。それが楽しくてね～～～（＾＾；

　日本人の友人たち（特に駐在の人）の多くは、このアンティークにはまってるのですが、私はつい最近まで、はまらないようにしていました。なんか高そうだし、場所とるし、使わないし、と思って。でも中古品店なら安いし、宝探しのようなわくわくもあるし、持ち寄りパーティーやゲストが来る時には便利だし。暫くははまってしまいそうです。

　あ、買い物に話を戻してっと。
　友人たちは、それぞれ用事があって、先に帰ってしまったのですが、私はまた一人でぶらぶら。そして出会ったピンクのパイレックス！きゃわいい～～♪
　中古品店では、まずピンクとか水色とかの可愛いものは売ってない（あるいはすぐ売れる）ので、これは買いでしょ！と、ほぼ衝動買い。すんご～～～～い冷静に考えると、ちょっとこれは高かったと思うのですが。まぁでも可愛いんだもん！ピンクなんだもん！ということで、強引に納得。
　
　で、これ以上いたら、やばいかもしれん・・・と思って、夫に電話して迎えに来てもらいました。1時過ぎくらいまでいたのかな～。一応、4時までだったんですが、私が帰る時点でもまだまだ車のなが～い列があって、人が来ているようでした。午後だともっと安くなったりするのかな。でもこればっかりは、分かりませんよね。

　帰宅後。。。収納場所に、やっぱり苦悩しました。いくつか使わなくなった食器を寄付かあげる予定です～（＾＾；
