Heatwave!

It has been really hot here in the bay area this week... There is a heatwave, and it reached high 90F on Monday and 104F yesterday!! It's supposed to be a bit cooler today(highs around 90F, still hot though.)

So yesterday, expecting my apartment will be inhabitable, I drove with my husband to his work. I went to see my friend, had lunch with my husband, went window-shopping to the antique stores in the area, stayed at scrapbook store in Fremont, and then drove back to home with my husband. I stayed mostly in air conditioned place, so it was great!

Although, when we came back to the apartment, it was still pretty hot and heat didn't go away until this early morning... The heatwave seems harsher since we are so used to mild and cooler-than-usual summer...

Anyway, here are some pics I took in Niles in Fremont. Niles is famous for antique stores.




Beautiful sawing machine!


I was looking for some mug cups and big dishes, but I didn't see anything I liked looking-wise and price-wise. Well, maybe I didn't look closely enough, because it was very hot(the car showed 103F!). It was still lot of fun to look for good deals and cute stuff!

At scrapbooking store(ScrapbookU), when their class room is not reserved or used, they let people use it for free! It's very generous. In their big classroom, I made this layout using Inspired Blueprints sketch#26


I used bits of leftover papers from classes and previous projects. Eco-friendly!



The photos are from our trip to Yosemite NP in June when we climbed the top of Yosemite Falls. I would like to go back there again!

It's around 11am here and getting pretty hot. After blogging, I might go to the library or something to stay cool...

　暑いです！！
　冷夏に慣れきった体に、いきなりの熱波です。
　月曜日34度くらい、火曜日38度。多分40度行ってたでしょう。。
　今日、水曜日は33度くらいまでしか上がらないようですが。。。湿気がない分、断然日本よりすごしやすい！と、今年の日本の夏を経験した友人は言っていますが。天然サウナも慣れない体にはこたえます～＞＜

　そんなわけで昨日は、夫と一緒に会社まで行き、午前中は友達に会い、おうちのわんこや子どもと遊び。ランチを夫と食べた後、アンティーク街をうろつき、SB屋さんのクラスルームで一人クロップし、夫と一緒に夜になってから帰宅、と、極力、在宅をさけていました。
　クーラーがないので、ちょっとね。干からびますからね・・・（＾＾；；

　アンティーク街、色々と可愛いものはあったのですが、なにせ高い。詳しい友人いわく、ややオーバープライス気味だそうで。見るだけでしたが、可愛かったので、それなりに楽しかったです。
　
　スクラップブック屋さんでは、クーラーがんがん効いた所で、見開きレイアウトを完成させました♪もう写真もペーパーもほぼ決めていたので、貼るだけだったんですけどね。ジャーナルまで、全て完成させられたので、達成感がありました！
　
　ペーパーは、クラスや他のプロジェクトで余ったあれこれを、細々と使っています。主にBo-Bunny。ボーダーのペーパーはWe Rです。スケッチは、Inspired Blueprintsの#26です。
　
　写真は6月に行ったヨセミテのもの。ヨセミテフォールズの頂上で撮った写真たちです。トレイルの最後の方は、ほぼ垂直な崖に作られた細い階段を進むのですが。高所恐怖症の夫は、ここへ来てギブ（笑）仕方ないので、一人で楽しみました♪絶景でした！でもなかなか写真には納まらないのが、残念。

　さてさて11時。。タイプする指先にも汗をかき始めました（苦笑）
　何かおなかに入れたら図書館でも行ってみようと思います～

June, July and August Monthly layout!

Since April, I've been taking Emi-san's monthly layout classes. In each class, we make one double page layout with some interesting techniques. This is a really fun and practical class--in each class, I can learn something new and I will have layouts to showcase my year!

　4月からスタートした、エミーさんのマンスリーレイアウトクラス。毎月、見開きページを作ります。いろんなテクニックを学べる上に、毎月のダイジェストレイアウトが作れるので、とっても助かっています♪6月、7月分を完成させたので、載せておきま～す（6月はアップ忘れてた）！
　8月のは、土曜日に途中まで作っていたので、おうちで完成させました。右ページは写真待ちです。
　
　今日は久しぶりにあっつい！夏らしい天気となったベイエリア。月～水くらいまで、30度前半くらいまで気温も上がるようです～♪寒い日々が続いていたので、さすがにうれしい！
　でも今からベビーシッター。しっかり水分補給して、私も子どももばてないように気をつけます！

Clear minibook class and more!

On Saturday, I went to Emi-san's home class to make a clear minibook(My husband gave me a ride, thanks! He went to his workplace while I was in the class and did some programing on his work computer, which is much faster than the one we have at home.).



The base minibook is a set of clear acrylic boards. I glued photos, papers, stickers and other stuff on them. It looks very interesting, because you can see through the other pages. My minibook has a close-up photo of my friend on the front, so I couldn't uploaded it here, but you can see how it is like on Emi-san's blog.

The class started around 10am, but I couldn't finish it until 3pm or something! After that, I started making another layout, and stayed at Emi-san's until 5:30 when my husband came to pick me up! A great day!!

　土曜日はエミーさんのホームクラスとクロップデーでした～♪
　クラスではこちらのクリアミニブックを作りました！クリアブックは、次のページが重なって見えるのが楽しいですよね～。私は日本で京都に友達と遊びに行った時の写真を使いました。女ふたり、きゃっきゃっ言いながら、本当に楽しかった時間です。
　その友達の顔がアップの写真が表紙からみえるので、写真はバックから撮影したものだけで、ごめんなさい（＾＾；；
　10時からクラスでしたが、時間内に完成するはずもなく、その後、3時くらいまで頑張って、やっと完成。可愛く仕上がって嬉しかった～♪
　その後は、夫が迎えに来てくれた5時半ごろまで、12インチを作っていました（夫は朝、私をドロップして、その後会社でプログラミングなどをしていました。仕事ではなく、ほぼ趣味。。汗）。いやー一日中、SBしてました。楽しかった！

　あ、エミーさんが近々日本で開催する予定のクラスのサンプルも、一部、見せてもらってしまいました！！と～～～～～～～～っても！！！！可愛くて、日本で受講される皆さんが、うらやましい！！！サンノゼでも同じクラスがあると良いのですが～。。どうかなぁ～（；＿；

IB#4-double page layout

It has been really cold summer here in the bayarea... This morning, it was only 55F, breezy, foggy and cloudy... brrrrr....

This layout is with photos from one of rare hot weekend in this summer. Hiking to the top of the Yosemite falls! The sketch is based on Inspired Blueprints sketch#4.




It was a strenuous difficult hike, but very rewarding. The falls were big, and occasionally the wind blew cold water and splashed on us which helped and encouraged us quite a bit!

　
　日本では猛暑のようですが、ベイエリアは冷夏です。。。
　今朝も起きたら、10度ほどしか気温がなく、ベランダに出たら風もあって、晩秋のような冷え込み。霧もすごいので、霧が晴れる10時ごろまではこのくらいの気温のままでしょう。。霧が晴れても、20度を超えないですからね。まったく夏を感じられません（;_;
　
　そんな冷夏の中、作ったのは、真夏のレイアウト（笑）。ヨセミテでヨセミテフォールズの上までハイキングした時の写真です（6月末）。ヨセミテは、私たちの住んでいるエリアよりだいぶ内陸にあるので、昼間はかなり暑くなります。この日も25度超えてたんじゃないかな。

　冬の長雨のおかげで水量がかなり多かったヨセミテフォールズ。かなり急勾配のトレイルでしたが、風で滝の水が飛んできたり、日陰も多かったので、何とか登りきれました。楽しかった♪

　あ、このレイアウトは久しぶりにInspired Blueprintsのスケッチを使っています。かなり昔のです。使っているペーパーも2005年に発売されたWe Rのもの。割引されてて買ったものの、ず～っと眠ってたのを、やっと使いました。使わないとね。もう収納スペースがないもんだから・・・（＞＜

Flea Market at Scrapbook Island(San Jose)

This morning, I went to scrapbooking flea market at Scrapbook Island in San Jose with my husband. It's a very popular event, because there are a lots of great deals for used(many of them are hardly used!) and even brand-new things! So we left home before 9am hoping the line were not too long(Market starts at 10am).

As we walked, we heard people talking from the back of the buildings..... and we saw a Looooong line. Yes, we were late!!!


My husband was a bit embarrassed(or even scared) to stay with me in the line, though there were one or two guys with their wives, so he went to Starbucks to work on his computer. I had a book to read, so I stayed in the line until 11:30am!!!

At 10am, they opened the door, but 60 people who got tickets(given away at 8am or so) got in first. Then, as a customer leaves, another was let in. And it's not hard to imagine for ladies to take time to find good deals! I understand that they had to limit numbers of people to come in, so that the place won't be too crowded, but 2hours of waiting is not easy. I wonder if they would give away another set of tickets so that people don't have to wait in the line and can come back at certain time, or limit shopping time and let people take turns to shop or something.


I peeked into the market...I was envious.


Though, when I finally got in there, there were still a lot of stuff!


It took me another half hour or so to go through cashier's line, because there were people who got BOXES of stuff! I saw somebody carrying laundry bags stuffed with goodies!

Anyway, here is what I got. Not too much for the waiting time! I know I cannot fit too much more into our apartment :-(

After flea market, I went to Scrapbook Island regular store section, and got them at half off!!

I also shopped new CHA summer stuff. They had Cosmo Cricket, Echo park, G45 and more, but I got these only. I don't quit like this season's CC lines, so I just got chipboard set.
My husband got tired and his computer's battery died. So we just went straight to home. Fun shopping day!

　うちから南へ40分ほどの所にあるScrapbook IslandというSB専門店で、フリマが開催されたので、行って来ました～。今年で行くのは3回目。年々混んで来ているようなので、今年は10時開店に余裕を持って、9時半ごろ行ったのですが。。。　
　
　行列すげぇ！！！
　どうやら遅かったようです・・・（:_:

　後で聞いた所では、早い人は6時代から並びだし、8時ごろに整理券を60枚配ったそうですが、すぐ無くなったそうで。なんすか、それは、もうアップル新製品発売並み（苦笑）？！

　まぁね、ほとんど使われてない品や新品もあって、かなりお値段もお得なのでね・・・お財布にうるさい女性たちにとっては、見逃せないですからね。。

　10時開店時には、整理券をゲットした60人がまず入場し。それからお客さんが去るごとに、その人数分入っていくので。。。列が進むのも、すごく遅い～～！！
　結局、入場したのは11時半ごろだったでしょうか。2時間待ち。。。　
　再度整理券を配るとか、買い物時間を制限するとか、ちょっと考えてほしいものです（＾＾；；；年配の方やお子さん連れの方は、厳しいですよね～私は本をずっと読んでいたので、長くは感じませんでしたが。

　まぁそれでも中に入ってみたら、結構まだモノは残ってました。スタンプなどを手早くチェック。ペーパーやステッカーはスルーです。。どうせ古いのしかないし、もう増やせないので。

　スタンプ、クイックカッツのスクイーズとダイをいくつか等お買い上げ。合計35ドルくらいだったと思うので、やっぱりすごくお得♪

　その後、本店の方に行って、CHAサマーで出た新作などを見ました～
　あ、お店でもセールしてたので、Donnaのとかペーパーを少々買いました。新作は、う～～～～ん、、、と迷って、少しだけ買いました。いつもCosmoはパック買いするのですが、今回のラインは、ちょ～～～っと好みじゃなくて。使いようがなさそうだな、と思って、チップボード以外控えました。もう少し考えてみて、欲しかったら、また来週来るので、その時に買おうかな、と。
　
　どこか寄り道してから帰りたかったのですが、夫が待ちくたびれてたので、まっすぐ帰宅。だから来なくてもいいよ～っつったのに（＾＾；まぁ普段、仕事に行くよりも早く家を出ましたからね。一応、感謝ですかね！

bonus project?!

I made this 12" layout with left-over papers from my mini book kit! I just collected the bunch of papers on my desk and put them together... it took me only 30 minutes or something to finish this layout.


I used Martha Stewart craft punch to make butterflies and EK success's border punch to make scallops.
A fun and quick project;-)

　昨日のボードアルバムの残りのペーパーを使って、12インチを作りました♪足したのは、タイトルに使ったステッカー、コアディネーションズのエンボスペーパー、Primaのフラワーくらいかな。
　
　少ししかペーパーが残ってないので、迷うこともなく、ハギレをぽんぽんと並べて、完成～♪30分くらいで出来たんじゃないかな（笑）やっぱりピンクとかオレンジは、元気になる色で好き☆
　
　新しく買ったパンチを二つ、試してみました。マーサ・スチュワートの蝶のパンチと、EK Successのボーダーパンチ。どちらも良いのですが。。ただデカイ。収納がちょっと困ります（＾＾；；

Long stitch board album with wedding photos

I'd been working on a book binding minibook kit~long stitch board album~ from Memory Place for a while, and just finished it!
I used my sister-in-law's wedding photos, because the colorful papers in the kit reminded me of the flowers blooming outside of the church where they got married!


The title of the book is "happy together".

I put small alphabet stickers to each page to make a short message!








This is very lovely minibook! I'm glad to able to put some of her wedding photos together!

　メモリープレイスさんのブックバインディング応用講座ロングステッチボードブックを完成させました♪ラブメモ講座専用メッセージボードで、別の方が完成させていたのがとっても素敵だったので、どうしても作りたくなってしまって（＾＾；他の人の作品を見ると、良い刺激になりますよね！

　私は3年ほど前の義理の妹の結婚式の写真を使っています。絵本のボードブックのようなイメージで、1ページ毎に、1-2ワードをステッカーで作って貼り、全体で「dear mom, dad, my brothers, i am getting married to him. always and forever we will keep walking together」と、妹からのメッセージのようにしました♪結婚式というと、もっと落ち着いたカラーが多いと思いますが、私はこのペーパーを見た時、式をした教会外に咲いていたお花を思い出したので。ちょうどブルーもペーパーに入っていたので（アメリカの結婚式では、Something blue（何か青いもの）を身につける習慣がある）、ばっちりだと私は思っています（笑）！どの写真も好きなのですが、最後の写真、相傘で歩く二人の写真が一番気に入っています。

　ただ一枚も自分も写真を使ってないのが悲しい～＞＜なので、裏表紙にでも小さくプリントしたものを貼ろうと考えています。だってせっかくお洒落したしね！「Made by your sister」みたいな感じで。本当はプレゼントしたら、もっと素敵なんでしょうけどね～～～かわいすぎてね～～～～～。。。

　どうしましょうね。クリスマスごろまで自宅で愛でて、もしあげてもいいな・・・と思えたら、クリスマスプレゼントにするかもしれません。あくまで「かも」ですが。

Visiting Marin MOCA in Novato

Ooops, it's already August! I should write more on the blog!

Yesterday, I went to Museum of Contemporary Art(MOCA) in Novato, Marin county, with Emi-san to see their altered book show.


It was about one hour drive, north over the Golden Gate bridge, so when we got there, it was already around noon.



I was bit surprised by the museum buildings. These buildings must be old church or monastery. They look beautiful!

We decided to have lunch first at the restaurant next to the museum since both of us had never been to Novato and didn't know the area at all.

It was a good decision! Both foods and atmosphere of the place were great. I had pork burger with grilled peppers and onions. Delicious!


We moved to the museum building and went inside to see the show.




It was a small exhibition, but since it was allowed to touch the altered books on display, we got really excited and enjoyed looking & feeling the details of the art work. We probably spent 2 hours or something!

There was a silent auction was going on, too. They put a sheet of paper next to each book and people were supposed to write down their bids. The most expensive one was already more than $200. I wonder how much it'll be at the end of the show!

Besides the altered book show, there were numbers of artist's studios on the site. Very few artists were there, but their works were on the walls of the hallway and we were able to look inside of the studio through the window on the door. Each studio(even the door or room number plate) had an unique character, so it was still a lot of fun to look around.

After shopping at museum store, we headed for downtown Novato. There was a small scrapbooking store, and I got some new papers that I cannot find in my area.

There was a farmer's market going on, too, so we got some stuff. They even had ponies!




What do you think they are? They are not pound cakes...

Yes, there are soaps!!!!! They look delicious and smell delicious.
The chocolate looking things on the tray were not chocolate either. They are scrubs! They smelled very very real...

It was getting late, so we headed for home after farmer's market.
So much fun!!!! Great summer&art day!!!!


　昨日は、うちから北へ約1時間、ゴールデンゲートブリッジの向こう側にあるNovatoという町の近代美術館のAltered Bookショーを見に、エミーさんと遠出して来ました～
　
　着いたら既に12時ごろだったので、まずランチ。ちょうど美術館の横にレストランがあったので、そこで頂きました。壁には絵が飾られた落ち着いた雰囲気で、味もGood！！平日なのに、ほぼ満席でした～

　おいしいものを食べるとテンションが上がりますよね～ワクワクしながら、美術館の方へ。
　美術館やこの辺り（Art centerって書いてあった、他にもCommunity centerがあった）の建物は、おそらく修道院か何かだったようです。建物について書いてある説明がなかったので、確実ではありませんが。。雰囲気があって、私はとても好きです♪インテリアも、梁に装飾があったりして、綺麗でした。

　お目当てのAltered Book展。50点ほど出品されていて、手袋着用してなら触っても良かったので、じっくり細部まで見て、触って。。。と～～～っても、楽しかった！！
　オークションも同時開催中で（お金は美術館に寄付される）、それぞれの作品の横に紙と鉛筆があり、ビットできる様になっていました。高いものは200ドル以上ついてましたが。。まだ開催期間はかなり残っていますが、どれくらいまで値段が上がるのでしょうね～
　作品の写真は、ブログには載せれなくてごめんなさい。
　
　美術館には、あとたくさんのアーティストスタジオがあって。平日だしほんの数人しか実際に作品製作をしている人はいませんでしたが、廊下などに展示してある作品を見たり、人がいないスタジオを覗くのは、と～～っても楽しかったです。スタジオも、もちろん見られることを前提に物を配置してあるのだと思いますが、それがなんかひとつひとつ格好良いし、個性的。毎月最初の日曜日は、Open Studioをしているそうなので、ぜひまた来たい！と思いました♪
　
　アートを堪能した後は、Novatoのダウンタウンエリアへ。スクラップのお店があるようだったので、覗いてみました。かなり小さいお店でしたが、CoredinationsのビンテージやWhite Washシリーズがあり、私のエリアでは見ないので、買ってきました♪


　ファーマーズマーケットでも、少しお買い物。手作り石鹸のお店には、お菓子のような石鹸が！可愛くて、良いにおいで、いくつか私も買ってしまいました♪おねーさんも小顔で親切だった～

　またドライブして帰宅すると6時半。。エミーさんは、私の家からさらに40分ほどドライブしないといけないので。。。大変だったろうな＞＜　でもすんごく充実した楽しい一日でした！たまには美術館とか博物館って、良いですよね～～また行こうっと！！
