{Japan Trip} Tsukiji Fish Market & Downtown Tokyo

On the following day after we went to Toshogu Shrine, my parents and me went to Tsukiji fish market!  This is the busiest and biggest fish market in Japan.  We got there early, like 7am, so most of the dealers and shoppers finished their selling/buying and the people looked busy moving stuff and clearing places.  Even though it was after the busiest time of a day, still the market seemed to be filled with energy!

There are a lot of stores and restaurants for market workers.  They are also open for tourist and famous for serving very good fish.  We went to Yamato Sushi restaurant and ordered "chef's choice" sushi.  The chef made quite a few Nigiri suhi, like one dozen, maybe, and they are all very very good!  The fish were fresh, sweet and flavorful(not fishy!)... Ahhh... just looking at the pictures makes me hungry!

After eating, we walked around the market.  It was amazing place!  The tuna was being cut by chain saw like thing!

There are small stores right outside of the market as well.  They offer a lot of free samples:)

Then, we walked to Ginza area, shopping area.  There are two stores my mom wanted to go, but we found out they were both closed on Mondays...:(  My mom and dad continued and I went to different stores on my own.

Then we met in Nihonbashi area after some misscommnunications... how is it even possible when each party has a cell phone?!  Anyhow, this is the Nihonbashi bridge.  I don't remember why exactly we stopped there, but the structure looked interesting.  The freeway passing right above it was a bit disappointing.

We had lunch finally!  I had some sort of Chirashi sushi thing.  It was huge!

And then we went to Japan Bank's free guided tour.  The explanation part was a bit boring, but it was a nice beautiful building.

After the tour, we wanted to go imperial palace, but it was too late and closed:( We went back to my father's apartment and took a little break.  My mom and I took a bus from Tokyo to Sakaide in the evening.  Whew, it was a long long day... we walked a lot.

日本滞在7日目の月曜日は、東京都内観光!念願の築地へ～♪おすし♪おすし♪早起きだってへっちゃらだい。

月曜日だったので、そんなに朝早くないとはいえ、場内はすごい活気でした。スクーターがぶんぶんあっちへこっちへ。危ない～～!!夫が5年位前に一人で来た時も、スクーターとかがびゅんびゅん行き来していて、危うく轢かれそうになった!と言ってたけど、納得。でもこの雰囲気が良い♪

お寿司は大和寿司で、お任せコース。何を食べたかって、もううろ覚えなんだけど、とにかくおいしかった!!ネタが新鮮で瑞々しくて、とろける～♪魚の臭みはもちろんまったくなくて、でも風味がある。ああーーー幸せ。。なんて豪勢な朝ごはん!

それから場内をうろうろ。マグロの頭とかでっかい!身はチェーンソーみたいなので切られてるし。。迫力!!その他、イカやサザエや色んな魚介類がいっぱい～♪買わないけど、見てるだけで楽しかった。その後場外へ。こっちはなんかおみやげ物屋街って感じかな?でも試食とかさせてもらって、うまうま★

時間もまだ早かったので、本願寺を見たりぶらぶらしながら銀座方面へ移動。で、早くもランチ予定のお店を探すも。。どちらも月曜日閉店だった!あんれまぁ。両親はもう1件いくというので、私は分かれて伊東屋(文房具屋さん)へ。マスキングテープなどを買いました♪ああ～日本の文房具は可愛いなぁ、やっぱり!その後、私はちょっと気になる催事があったので、新宿へ行き、それから日本橋辺りで再び合流。

すっかり遅くなったランチを食べ、日本銀行のフリーツアーへ。お堅い説明は眠かったけど、建物内外はおもしろかったです♪とある銀行の制服のきた女性も2人ほどいました。研修みたいなもんかな?お土産(?)に、色んな資料の他にシュレッダーされたお札をもらったのが、なんか嬉しかったです^^「シュレッダーしたのを再現しても使えないものですので～」と仰ってました。そりゃそうだね。

それから皇居方面へ歩き、また閉館時間を過ぎててがっくりし、でももう疲れたので、父のアパートへ戻り休憩。この日は晩御飯、食べたっけな??昼が遅いし、がっつり!だったので、パスしたような気がする～。東京駅の駅ナカ?駅地下?で、お惣菜を買って、夜行バスで母とともに、四国へ移動しました～。帰国から1週間でやっと実家へ移動(^^;しかし東京を夜9時前に出て、翌朝9時とかに到着ですよ。どんだけ遠いの、四国。。。と思いました。

関東滞在中の1週間は、まぁ本当、よく食べ、歩き、遊んだ1週間でした(^^;

Love this birds' stamp!!

White snowflakes were stamped by acrylic paint.  They resist Glimmer Mist and add a saddle details to the card!  I loved how it turned out:)  Stickers are MT's masking tapes from Japan.

Christmas house-shaped minibook...a project from Love My Memories vol.15!  I made a little window on the front cover:)

And there are several other 12" layouts I made.  I noticed I didn't make very many layouts for 2011, so right now I'm working hard to catch up:)

ここ1ヶ月ほどで作った色々～。
まず日本からの帰国直後は、クリスマスカード作り!全部で60枚以上～～ひえー　まぁ一旦デザインを決めてしまえば、後は早いのですが。それでも途中で飽きて、他のことを試したくなったりするんですけどね(^^;今回はグリマーミストで主にペイントしました。白のアクリルで雪をスタンプし、ミストをレジストさせたのが、お気に入りです。

後はメモ帳をデコったり、ラブメモ15号のプロジェクトを作ったり。これはサンキューギフトとして、夫両親へプレゼント予定♪他にも12インチをいくつか。気がついたら、2011年のレイアウトがすごく少なくて。。。今、ちょっと落ち着いているので、どんどん作って、追いつきたいところです。頑張ります。

{Japan Trip} Nikko Toshogu

 On Saturday after Scrapbooking Fair, I stayed at my father's apartment in Tokyo.  On Sunday morning, my mother joined and we all went to Nikko Toshogu.  It was a little bit too late for autumn leaves' season, but there were still a lot of tourists forming a long line at the bus stop and cars driving up to the shrine.  So we decided to take a taxi!  Whew, that's one thing you get by traveling with your parents!

Just a bunch of photos from the place... it was built some hundreds years ago, but their detailed work is very well preserved, which is amazing.  But there is something I don't quite like this place... it's just too gorgeous and colorful.  When I go to shrines and temples in Japan, even very small ones, I can feel it's a sacred place and I love its quite beauty.  Here it's very busy, just not quite my type.

After the shrine, we took another taxi ride to Iroha zaka, which is famous for the beautiful scenery and a series of super steep switch backs!

We stopped at Kegon no Taki falls... beautiful, but do you really wanna pay $6 to use an elevator??  I wish there were stairs!  I can handle it very easily.

We took train back to Tokyo downtown area and my brother joined us.  BBQ for dinner!

My mother and I stayed at a Lotte hotel near Kinsicho station.  It was a brand new hotel and was great!  Through the window we saw Tokyo Sky Tree (new TV tower).  The cushion had a illustration of Coala which is one of Lotte's popular cookie products.

A long traveling day!

はい、日本旅行記その2．シッターしている子が寝ている間、ぱちぱちやっています。彼女のお昼ねスケジュールが変わらない限り、ブログも続けられそうな予感(笑)

横浜でのイベント後、単身赴任の父のマンションに泊まり、翌日日曜日、上京してきた母と合流。3人で、日光東照宮へ～～のんびーりな電車の旅です。いやぁ、関東平野は広いねぇ～～

結構朝早くに出たつもりだったのに、昼前に日光に着いたら、結構な人出！お天気も良かったからかなぁ～バスにすごい行列。なので、なぁんとタクシーで観光!うーん、親がいるとありがたいですなぁ。

日光は2回目だけど、ちょっと派手すぎて、私は苦手。神社・お寺には、もっと森閑とした、おごそかーな雰囲気を持っててほしい～。もちろん何百年も経ても、見事に保全されていることには、感動しますが。鳴瀧も良かったし。一番のお気に入りは、伊達政宗が寄進したと言われている南蛮鉄でできた灯篭～!1600年代とかですよ。灯篭の中では一番古いとか!ロマンを感じます。あ、あと三猿の彫り物があるのは厩舎なんだけど、その中に本当の馬「新馬」がいてびっくりした!毎日午前中の限られた時間しか、そこにはいないようなので、ラッキー!綺麗な大きな馬ちゃんでした。

東照宮をぐるっと回った後は、中禅寺湖へ。ここでもまた「ヘイ、タクシー!」ですよ。ありがたや～。運転手さんの案内で、いろは坂をぐねぐね登り、中禅寺湖を見、華厳の滝へ。ヨセミテ滝とかを見慣れた今となっては、サイズには、はて?と思ってしまったけど。

そしてまたいろは坂を下り、駅へ戻り、都心へ～。弟も合流し、焼肉!!夜は、ロッテシティホテルに、母と二人で泊まりました。アメリカの残念なホテルやモーテルに慣れているので、真新しい設備や洗い場のあるお風呂に感動～～ドライヤーもすごく乾きがいいの～。どこのメーカーだったんだろ。ちゃんと見てきたら良かったな。部屋のクッションが、コアラのマーチで、無性に食べたくなりました。なんという戦略・・・(笑

忙しい1日でした。そして確かこの日は夫の誕生日だったというのに、すっかり忘れていて、数日して実家に戻ってから思い出したっつーね。。彼も気にする人ではないのだけど、ちょっと申し訳なかったなぁと思ったのでした～

{Belated} new year greetings!

It has been a quite while since last post...It was rather helpless since I was traveling and there were holidays, but cannot help feeling bad. Anyway, I wish everyone a peaceful new year!

In the last post, I talked about Scrapbooking fair in Quilt Week Yokohama. The only Japanese scrapbooking magazine, Love My Memories, where I sometimes work for, was hosting special workshops in English so I worked as an interpreter. It was challenging, but very inspiring, learning, and most importantly, a lot of fun! It was great to see so many scrapbook lovers from all over Japan:)

I arrived Japan on Oct 8th late at night and stayed at my father's place. Then next morning, I went to a meeting with Wendy and Stayce from Tattered Angels with Emi. After the meeting and setting up the classroom, I stayed up pretty late to help Emi-san for putting together instructions... Oh my gosh, it was tough... I was super sleepy! But probably because of this, I didn't suffer any jet lag thing.

I believe(and hope) everyone in the class enjoyed it and my interpretation was helpful.

I had been to Yokohama once or twice before this trip, but it's a very nice town by the big port.  It reminds me a lot of Kobe where I went to college. I wish I had time to explore around..

I even saw Mt.Fuji in way behind the buildings!!

Each night after an all-day workshop, I went out for dinner with my friends.  I can see them so rarely in person that it was really nice to see them!

One night, I went to Yokohama Chinatown.  It was very close from the hotel where I was staying.

Also one night, I went to Shinjuku to see my friends from college.  I was not sure if I can make it without getting lost, but I did it thanks to my friend's help.  Whew, Tokyo is too big for me.

After the last day of the fair,  I went out dinner at Minato Mirai (harbor area) with a lady I often work with for Love My Memories.

Through this event, I met many people that I had only communicated online or I seldom see in person.  It was very, very nice!!  I hope I can keep in touch with them:)

Now I hope I can finish my Japan travel journal soon, but I cannot be sure...  I'll do my best!

大変、遅くなりましたが、明けましておめでとうございます。
2012年、みなさま、いかがお過ごしでしょうか。この1年、少しでも多くの笑顔が見られ、心穏やかに過ごせるよう祈っています。

なかなかブログの更新もままならず。。前回は怒涛のように、横浜のキルトウィーク内で開催されるスクラップブッキングフェアのことを書いて、ドロン。でしたね(^^;;;
このイベントは、いつもお世話になっているエミーさんの会社、ラブメモが主催したもので、私はその中の英語で開催されたワークショップの通訳としてお手伝いさせてもらいました。どきどきでしたが・・・ボランティアの方々やラブメモのみなさんのおかげで、なんとかお役目を無事、果たすことができました～～！日本中から集まってくれたSBファンのみなさんに会え、Tattered Angelsのウェンディさんやステイシーさんと仲良くなれ、と～～っても楽しかったです♪

横浜自体は、2回目くらいかな・・？時間があれば観光したかったんだけど。。大学時代に住んでいた神戸を思い出し、懐かしい気持ちになりました♪天気が良い日は、イベント会場からも、富士山が見えました～～すごい！

イベントは3日間に渡って開催されたのですが、毎夜、イベント後は、友達と会いまして。忙しいなか時間を割いてくれた彼女らに大感謝★立場が全然違ってしまっても、お酒飲んで、笑いあって、本当に幸せ～～～♪でした。1日は中華街へ、次の日は新宿へ(やーよく迷わずに行って戻れたもんだ!)、最終日は横浜みなとみらいらへんで。ラブメモや今回のイベントで一緒に仕事をしている方たちも、普段はネット上でのコミュニケーションだけなのですが、会って話が出来るのは、やっぱり何よりでした^^まぁそれでもやっぱり、ばたばたで、ゆっくりは出来なかったのですが><

さ、日本旅行記。続けて書きたいとは思ってるけど、どうなるかなぁ。。ま、ぬるーく見守ってください。
